International Women's Day Exclusive
To celebrate International Women's Day we sat down with our Founder and CEO Nicky for an exclusive interview. We asked Nicky to share a few things that maybe you didn't know about her, from her celebrity crush to her hobbies outside of the office.
Personal:
What is your favourite childhood memory?
Riding horses at the stables near my Grandma’s house in Balcombe.
What’s your go-to guilty pleasure? How do you like to treat yourself?
Dark chocolate, I try to stick to just two squares after supper. I also love handbags!
What is something that always makes you smile?
My granddaughters, or a great drive at golf.
Hobbies and Interests:
What do you like doing in your spare time outside of the office?
Golf, I play it as much as I can, and I also enjoy doing Pilates.
What are your hobbies, and how did you get into them?
I have always enjoyed going to the gym and walking in the fresh air, but golf is my big love, I started when I was 40, I went to Ireland with a friend for her father’s President’s Day at Galway Golf Club and fell in love with the sport!
What are your favourite programmes you have watched recently; can you recommend anything?
Definitely Yellowstone, I loved Traitors and my guilty secret is Ghosts!
Have you ever met a celebrity? Which celebrity would you like to meet?
I used to meet lots of actors in my shop in Brighton when they were appearing at the Theatre Royal, Rula Lenska, Sian Phillips, Bonnie Tyler and when I did a fashion show at the Grand one year for the Martlets, I met Dame Vera Lynn, I felt I had met the Queen. Also, Sharron Davies was a regular visitor to the shop, she was so easy to dress, and always looked fabulous.
I have always been in love with Brian Ferry, but if I met him I think I would embarrass myself and not be able to speak.
Travel:
Where are some of your favourite places you have travelled to?
I lived in Naples in the 70’s and Positano has been my favourite place in the world ever since. I have been so lucky to travel all my life, I love Africa and South America and I try to do one big trip every year before I get too old to fly.
What is left on your bucket list?
I think Chile next year.
Business and Fashion:
What is your favourite part of running your own business?
I love buying, putting all the colours and styles together is like a huge jigsaw puzzle. I used to love meeting clients when I had the shop, but now it’s all on the phone/email so it's not quite the same.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
Don’t get into debt.
Who’s style do you admire?
Helen Mirren, Joanna Lumley, and our late Queen.
What is your favourite season?
Spring for sure, blue skies but not too hot!
