OUR SUMMER SUITCASE…

With the holiday season finally here, we asked our stylish
founder Nicky all about packing for a sunny getaway… Even with the tightest luggage restrictions, we all have our non-negotiables when it comes to packing!

Talk us through what you would pack?

I always write a list beforehand, in case I forget anything important, then I keep them all in a notebook so the next time I go on a similar journey. As for clothes, I would usually
wear stretch jeans, a white shirt and jacket to travel in, plus trainers. Some lightweight black jersey (vest and palazzo pants) for the evening plus maybe one long jersey dress, with one pair of strappy sandals and a statement necklace. A pashmina for travelling and evenings, usually black. Shorts and vests in linen, swimsuits/sarong/cover
up with a pair of flip flops which double up as slippers. I usually take a nice
nylon bag on the plane which doubles as a beach bag, usually black! A small
cross body bag for essentials

What makes linen so great for summer?

I have always worn linen since I went to live in Italy back in 1973. I was appalled at the men in their crumpled suits, but I soon caught the bug! White linen, especially, wears so well and washes up like new for years, I always have a pair of wide leg trousers, a couple of vests, plus some shorts, and to cover up, some bright shirts which also look great over swimwear.

What is your best packing tip for a summer getaway?

I find the best way to prevent creases and make the most of your space is to use the roll method. Lay tops facedown, fold in the sleeves, and roll from the bottom up.

What is the one non-negotiable item you always pack?

I find it hard to pick just one! I would say a lovely swimsuit with a matching sarong and a white shirt and jeans for travelling.

What was your most memorable summer holiday?

I go back to Naples every year! I used to take my children when they were little and now my grandchildren come too. We all love Positano and it holds so many fabulous memories. One of my favourite memories was spending New Year's Eve there, we danced in the piazza until dawn after a fabulous banquet at ChezBlack’s (my favourite restaurant in the world!)
